1. Complete our Student Update form  SCC | SFCC. Contact the Registration Office at SCC (509-533-8860) or SFCC (509-533-3305).

2. You will receive an e-mail message via the student portal, MyBigfoot, about testing (if necessary) and registration for classes.

If you are transferring from another college or university. . .

1.  Apply online or stop by your college or education center Admissions Office and obtain a Student Identification Number (SID). Note: There is a $25 nonrefundable application fee that must be paid before you can complete the remainder of our admissions and registration process.

2. If you plan to attend our college for more than one quarter, you have two options:


Take our  placement tests in writing, reading and math for appropriate class selection.

OR

 SFCC/IEL students complete our online Prerequisite form (link coming soon). All students (SCC, SFCC and IEL) must provide an unofficial transcript from their former college or university. Then ask your school to send an official transcript to your college or education center Admissions Office. Check our student portal, MyBigfoot, periodically for status reports on your transcript submission. Once completed, you can then obtain a registration time and register for classes. Note: We will need your official transcript on file before you can register for second quarter.
 
3. If you are only attending our college  for one quarter (eg, summer quarter) and the classes you want do not have math or English prerequisites, you can obtain a registration time and register for classes.

However, if there are math or English prerequisities, you have two options:

Community Colleges of Spokane offers more than 140 degree and certificate programs through Spokane Community College, Spokane Falls Community College and the Institute for Extended Learning including career-technical and liberal arts-transfer programs.

Once you've selected a program, be sure to remember it. You'll need this information as you complete your application for admission and proceed through our testing and registration processes!

Career-technical programs offer hands-on training that can lead to satisfying jobs in high-demand fields. Our career-technical programs span a broad range of professions -- health sciences, environmental science, architecture and construction, applied visual arts, business, education, aerospace and manufacturing, public safety, transportation, hospitality and design.

Transfer degrees prepare students for just that -- transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a bachelor's degree. We work closely with public and private schools in Washington to make our students' transfer experience as easy and successful as possible.

Our priority application deadline is three weeks prior to the start of the quarter you would like to attend.

If we receive your application after the priority deadline, it will be rolled over to the next quarter.

New students can apply online or by visiting one of our Admissions Offices.

There is a $25 nonrefundable application  fee. You won't be able to complete your admission, testing and registration processes until this fee has been processed, so once you receive your Student Identification Number (SID),please send your $25 fee, with this SID, to your college or center Admissions Office.

When your application has been processed, you'll receive a letter regarding placement testing for classes, academic counseling, orientation and registration.

There are many ways to finance your college education -- and financial aid is one of the most common.

To apply for federal and state financial aid, you must:  

1.  Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid at www.fafsa.gov.  You will need to list the Federal School Code for the school you plan to attend.

Important financial aid dates

Financial aid applications should be submitted on or before the Priority Funding Date for each quarter. The Financial Aid Office continues to accept applications after Priority Funding Dates, but students should be prepared to pay for tuition, books and living expenses for the quarter. If eligible, students will receive financial aid retroactive to the start of the quarter.

Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy

Satisfactory Academic Progress policy

To be eligible for financial aid, students must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress. Satisfactory Academic Progress will be evaluated each quarter the student is enrolled. For students returning after a break in enrollment, Satisfactory Academic Progress is evaluated for the most recent quarters attended at SCC, SFCC or both. This policy applies to ALL periods of enrollment whether or not the student previously received financial aid. Transfer credits are included.

Credits
To maintain eligibility for financial aid, students must complete the minimum number of credits listed in the Financial Aid Warning column below.

Students must earn a quarterly grade point average (GPA) of 2.00 or better to receive financial aid funding. They must have a minimum 2.00 cumulative college level GPA at the end of their sixth (6th) quarter of attendance. Students who fail to meet this requirement will be placed on Financial Aid Warning or Suspension.

Pace of progression toward maximum time frame
Students must maintain a pace of progression by completing a minimum of  67 percent of all attempted credits to complete a degree within the maximum time frame allowed for receipt of financial aid.

Attempted credits are based on enrollment level on the tenth (10th) day of each quarter. All attempted courses are evaluated to determine completed credits, including those with I, W, Z or 0.0 grades. All transfer credits accepted are counted toward the maximum time frames allowed.

Students who fail to meet these requirements are placed on Financial Aid Warning or Suspension.

A student's pace of progression is determined using the following fomula:
 

Pace of progression = Credits completed
   Credits attempted

Maximum timeframe
Financial aid funding is available for cumulative attempted credits up to 125 percent of the credits required to complete a student's degree or certificate program. Refer to the SCC or SFCC website for specific programs and credit maximums. Remedial credits and courses below the 100 level are excluded from the cumulative credits attempted up to a maximum of 45 remedial credits.

Financial Aid Warning
Students who fail to meet the credit, grade point average or pace of progression Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements will be placed on Financial Aid Warning. Students placed on Financial Aid Warning may receive financial aid for one additional quarter.

Financial Aid Suspension
Students whose aid has been suspended and not eligible for future financial aid. Financial Aid Suspension occurs when:

In the quarter of attendance, a student on Financial Aid Warning or probation, does not complete:

 The credits required for their enrollment level OR

 67 percent of their attempted credits (pace of progression) OR

 Does not earn a quarterly 2.00 GPA.

 A student officially or unofficially withdraws from all classes. Students who withdraw before the publicized last day to withdraw may owe a portioin or all of their financial aid back to the financial aid program.
A student's cumulative college-level GPA is below 2.00 at the end of the sixth (6th) quarter.

Financial aid Satisfactory Academic Progress appeal
Students placed on Financial Aid Suspension may submit an appeal if they failed to make satisfactory academic progress due to extraordinary circumstances. Appeal forms are available online or at one of our Financial Aid Offices. Students are limited to two (2) Satsifactory Academic Progress appeals.

Financial aid probation
If the student's appeal is approved, he/she is placed on Financial Aid Probation. The student's financial aid will be reinstated; however, as part of the approval, some conditions for reinstatement may be imposed. If a student does not meet the conditions of probation and reinstatement, he/she will be suspended and lose eligibility for financial aid.

No longer eligible for financial aid

Students who have completed two CCS degrees and/or certificates or have attempted three programs regardless of completion. If it is mathematically impossible to meet pace of progression requirements, consideration for reinstatement of financial aid will be denied.

Repeat courses
Students who do not pass a course with a GPA of 2.00 or better may receive financial aid once to repeat the course failed. Students who DO successfully pass a course may be paid once to retake it.

Community Colleges of Spokane Foundation offers hundreds of need- and merit-based scholarships each year. The scholarship application deadline is March 15.

Tuition Installment Payment Plan

Tuition Installment Payment Plan

The Tuition Installment Payment Plan allows students to pay for their college education in three, interest-free installments. The plan covers tuition and class fees for the current quarter. There are several requirements:

1. You must be enrolled in at least 12 credits
2. There is a quarterly $30 nonrefundable enrollment fee. You must re-apply at the Cashiers Office every quarter.
3. The dollar amount listed on the TIPP enrollment form cannot be adjusted for additional tuition and fees if you add classes.

The last day to enroll in the plan each quarter is:

Winter 2015 December 4, 2014
Spring 2015 March 5, 2015
Summer TIPP not offered summer quarter

To enroll:

1. Fill out a TIPP enrollment form, availabe at your college or center Cashiers Office.
2. The first payment and the $30 enrollment fee are paid at the time your register for classes.
3. Payments can be made by check, cash or Visa/Master Card.
4. Payments are due by the first of the month. If a payment isn't received by the first business day of the month, you will be dropped from the TIPP program, ineligible for TIPP in future quarters, and subject to registration policies for students with unpaid balances and disenrolled from classes.

Worker retraining and WorkFirst

Worker retraining

Worker Retraining provides job training for dislocated workers, people on unemployment, those facing imminent layoffs, displaced homemakers and the formerly self-employed. Worker Retraining funds also may be available for employees who, in order to remain employed, need to obtain new skills.

Eligible students receive career counseling and retraining in a variety of career and technical fields, and assistance with tuition and books also may be available.

WorkFirst

WorkFirst is designed to help Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) or post-TANF working parents move into better paying jobs, providing free tuition and assistance with child care to eligible students.

WorkFirst financial aid can be renewed each quarter. However, students cannot receive federal financial aid and WorkFirst financial aid at the same time.

Placement testing

Our placement tests in math, writing and reading help us direct you to classes where you can experience the greatest academic success. You won't be able to register until you have completed this step.

There is a nonrefundable $30 test fee that can be paid at the Cashiers Office prior to your test time.

Following your test, staff will be available to review your scores with you and help you get started on the next step -- getting registered for classes! You'll also have the opportunity to sign up for an orientation session after your test.

You can make an appointment and take your placement test at SCC, SFCC or any of our IEL education centers.

All information shared with a counselor is held in the strictest confidence unless:

1. you contemplate injuring yourself or other people
2. you committed or intend to commit a crime or harmful act
3. you are thought to be involved in child abuse
4. you are thought to be involved in abuse of a dependent adult
5. you find it necessary to file suit against another counselor
6. a court issues a subpoena demanding release of information.

You are assured of receiving competent, professional counseling. If you have a complaint about the quality of counseling you are receiving, please talk to the counselor first. If the two of you cannot resolve your concerns, you should contact your dean of student services.

Important dates

You are responsible for full tuition and fee payments on their payment due dates. There are several ways to pay your tuition: Tuition Installment Payment Plan, credit card or personal checks/money orders.

Although you may have applied for financial aid, it does not constitute payment. If your financial aid has been granted and sent to our Cashiers Office, it automatically will be applied to your class registration two weeks prior to the tuition due date. HOWEVER, it is up to you to check if there is a remaining amount due and pay this balance.

There are a couple of other things to remember as well:

1. Work-study funds cannot be used to pay tuition or fees.

2. Awards from the following fund sources can be used to pay tuition and fees:

Tuition Installment Payment Plan

The Tuition Installment Payment Plan allows students to pay for their college education in three, interest-free installments. The plan covers tuition and class fees for the current quarter. There are several requirements:

1. You must be enrolled in at least 12 credits
2. There is a quarterly $30 nonrefundable enrollment fee. You must re-apply at the Cashiers Office every quarter.
3. The dollar amount listed on the TIPP enrollment form cannot be adjusted for additional tuition and fees if you add classes.

The last day to enroll in the plan each quarter is:

Summer TIPP not offered summer quarter

To enroll:

1. Fill out a TIPP enrollment form, availabe at your college or center Cashiers Office.
2. The first payment and the $30 enrollment fee are paid at the time your register for classes.
3. Payments can be made by check, cash or Visa/Master Card.
4. Payments are due by the first of the month. If a payment isn't received by the first business day of the month, you will be dropped from the TIPP program, ineligible for TIPP in future quarters, and subject to registration policies for students with unpaid balances and disenrolled from classes.

Our college stores are your source for new, used, rental and e-books; reference books and study tools; basic school supplies; art, engineering and nursing supplies; required course supplies; computer software and media; and gifts, cards and convenience items.

We also carry a fine line of "SasquatchWear," college wear and imprinted souvenirs.

You can buy course materials in the store or online. We encourage you to do this before the quarter starts to avoid the rush! You can access your materials list through your schedule page (follow the link at the bottom of the page). Bring your schedule with you so our staff can help you select the right books.

And at the end of each quarter -- usually the last five days -- you can sell back your books for a portion of your purchase price; sell them, using a link on our website; or swap them with other students using the online student swap.

Buy/Sell/Swap program

At the end of the quarter, a textbook buy-back is offered. It usually begins on or before Study Day and runs four days. Buyback dates are posted on SCC, SFCC and the IEL's online college store sites.

Students also can  get a buyback quote through their online college store and it's possible to search private classified listings between students. Buyback is available every day through the college stores' websites and their partnership with a used book company.

The college store accepts VISA and MasterCard. We cannot accept two-party checks and non-imprinted checks.

Emergency textbook loans may be available through the Financial Aid Office.

Buy your books before the beginning of each quarter to avoid the rush! Bring your class schedule if you need assistance from store staff.

Refunds
Full refunds will be given through the 15th day of each quarter with proof of a drop or withdrawal.

Only course materials purchased for the current quarter are returnable, providing the following conditions are met:

General merchandise and trade books purchased from the college store and returned within five days from the date of purchase with the original receipt/packing slip are eligible for a refund. No refunds are allowed after five days from the date of purchase.

Clearance items are nonrefundable. All sales on these items are final.

Defective merchandise will be replaced if returned within two weeks of purchase with the original receipt.

Refunds or exchanges are NOT given on: Open course packets; career planning packets; batteries; headsets; graduation announcements; blue books; scantrons; movie, LaserQuest and Silverwood tickets; and special orders or shipping fees. Once opened, stethoscopes or sphygmomanometers, photography supplies, computer software, art, engineering, nursing and interior design kits will not be refunded or exchanged. Items that have been damaged are refundable.

Refunds are issued using the tender indicated on the receipt of purchase.Original receipt/packing slip and valid student ID are required for all refunds and exchanges.

All refunds must be in new, unused condition and must have all original packaging, tags, accessories, labels and paperwork.If an item was shrink-wrapped, a fee will apply.

Course materials may not be returned after a class has ended. Rental course materials follow the same refund guidelines.

Through the fifth day of each quarter, a restocking fee of 20 percent will be applied to course materials returned with proof or drop or withdrawal.
